Alapis Group is involved in the Human Health Sector, in the product categories of prescribed medicines, non-obligatory prescribed medicines (OTC), para pharmaceutical products, nutrition products, medical-technological and sanitary equipment. This sector constitutes a key part of its activities and has achieved a strong position for the Group in the Greek market.
In the Human Health Sector, the Group has adopted a business model based on:
- Ôhe development of an extended distribution network
- Ôhe establishment of collaborations with multinational pharmaceutical companies regarding the distribution of all the aforementioned product categories, and
- Ôhe development of generic pharmaceutical products.
Pharmaceutical products
The Group’s mission is to manufacture and distribute high standard medicines and technologies that would ensure high quality treatments at the least possible cost. The main aim is to broaden the Group’s access in the market of pharmacies and hospitals in the broader market of South-eastern Europe.
The strategy, through which Alapis activities are developing, is based on the following pillars:
- In the development of an extended commercial network in Greece and in the South-eastern Europe, which will constitute the platform for contracting commercial collaborations of representation, rendering Alapis a powerful local associate of multinationals
- In contracting collaborations with multinational companies regarding the purchase, promotion, distribution and sales (co-marketing) in the Greek as well as the broader South-eastern Europe pharmaceutical product market
- In contracting collaborations for the exclusive representation of patent drugs of multinational companies in the markets of Greece and South-eastern Europe
- In the development of a pharmaceutical portfolio, whose active substances have been recognized as reference substances in the treatment either with the purchase of dossier or their own development and production
- In the operation of a manufacturing unit that will produce pharmaceutical products for Alapis and, under contracts, for third parties, aiming at achieving economies of scale and cost control through the Group’s vertical integration process.

The Sector promotes pharmaceutical products into pharmacies, hospitals and clinics and informs the medical community for their properties, through an organised scientifically trained and constantly developing network of partners (medical representatives), which covers effectively 16,000 doctors and employs 128 persons with long lasting experience in the field. It is noted that 45% of them hold university titles, while 15% of them hold post graduate titles.
In addition, within the context of the promotional and informational activities towards the medical community for the Group’s work in the Human Health Sector, Alapis organises conferences in Greece and abroad, and other relevant events.
Considering the development of a broad distribution network for serving the needs of the domestic market, the Group develops its activities through a commercial network, which consists of 6 pharmaceutical warehouses – subsidiary companies. This network provides direct services, covering duly and with consistency over 5,000 pharmacies, making, in short time periods, 2-3 dispatches daily, depending on the needs of the served pharmacies of the broader area of Athens and Thessaloniki.
The central warehouse in Athens has modern infrastructure, with three recovery units, order identification scanners and travelator systems of constant flow. The total productive capacity of the network reaches 16,000 orders per day, selecting, amongst the total number of the pharmaceutical products that are available in the Greek market, and 10,000 para-pharmaceutical products. The warehouses have constant temperature systems, as well as cooling chambers for medicines that require special temperature conditions.
The network uses 70 own cars for the distribution of medicines, which are properly equipped for transport of refrigerated products or other sensitive pharmaceutical products, as well as scooters for urgent deliveries. In addition, there is the option for the customer pharmacies to send their order via an automated electronic system.

The Group predicts the trends of the international market and the potentials for the development of medicines, whose active substances have been recognized as reference substances in the treatment. Thus, having the know-how, the financial resources and the vision for the establishment of its position in the domestic as well as in the South-eastern European market, the Group is actively involved in the development of a portfolio of generic drugs, either through its own analysis or by purchasing dossiers from third parties.
In particular, through a specialized pharmaceutical laboratory, Alapis is involved in quality control, design, research and development of pharmaceutical proprietary medicines, also offering services to third parties in Greece and abroad. More precisely, the laboratory deals with the quality control of pharmaceutical products available in the market or are in the stage of development, and controls and assesses the analysis methods in pharmaceutical products. In this respect, it offers services of formulation, patent research assessment and evaluation, evaluation and analysis of active substances, excipients and end products, creation, evaluation, registration and updating of dossiers, evaluation and approval of pharmaceutical products (NP, MRP, DCP) and pharmacovigilence and eudravigilance services. This activity uses leading edge equipment and employs, for all its tasks, highly qualified trained scientific personnel of 19 persons. The laboratory is certified by the Greek National Organization for Medicines for developing and evaluating analytical control methods for the pharmaceutical products, determining their active substances and admixtures, conducting stability studies on pharmaceutical products according to the ICH instructions for releasing batches of end products; it is also certified for physicochemical controls in end products in the form of cream, ointment, capsules, dental mouthwash, nasal solutions, eye drops, soft gelatin capsules and injectables.
Within the context of the provision of high quality services and quality assurance, the laboratory is at the final stage for obtaining ISO/IEC 17025:2005 “General conditions for sufficient laboratory controls and measurements”.
In addition, the installation of new machinery and equipment is expected to be completed in the Group’s plant in Pallini, Attica and the manufacturing and packaging of the pharmaceutical products is expected to start. The plant expands at a total area of 7,500 m2 and has been constructed in own area of 13,900 m2. The Group aims at the creation of a competitive self produced product portfolio with the operation of the unit, which will absorb a significant share of the Greek market, being, at the same time, a leading edge for the expansion of Alapis’ activities in the South-eastern Europe. The Group plans to create a complete vertically integrated production line of generic drugs in this plant, which will rank among the largest European plants.
Para-pharmaceutical products – Nutrition Products
In the field of para-pharmaceutical products, the Sector is involved in the production and trading of sterile gauze dressings and bandages, aiming at offering high quality clinically approved products to the consumer. Alapis has a complete range of dressings and bandages, a fact which brings the company among the pioneers in this area in Greece and abroad (exports in 10 countries).
The self-produced products are based on research, as well as on new methods of production according to the demands of the international standards of the Sector.
The Group’s activities in the Sector are certified by the Research Center for Biomaterials (EKEVYL S.A.), according to the instructions of the European Union with ISO 9001/2000, 13488, 13485, CE 0653, as well as with a license for manufacturing and packaging medical and technological products by the Greek National Organization for Medicines.
The Group has two lines of high quality private label products for the pharmacies market: Sante and ALEFA.
